Choosing a power supply is a very important step in building or repairing your computer. A powersupply should have more than an adequate supply for each voltage supply rail. Even a basic computer requires the ability to soak up power surges and bumps. A good power supply will generate clean power to each rail  with little variance and have an abudance current when required under heavier loads. The stickers on many power supplies are misleading. A supply advertising 500 watts could in reality supply as little as 250w Total! What they advertise is PEAK watts, not wattage under load and  high temperatures. Don't let price be the only determining factor in purchasing a power supply. A good quaility powersupply can last as long as 10 years, where a cheap unit will fail in a year or less. More devices demand more power, as done demand on the system such as gaming and high I/O functions. Spend your money once.
